SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) — Springfield police traveled by boat to about 20 transient camp sites along the Willamette River Thursday to lead the way for a weekend trash pickup.
The Register-Guard reports officers found only two camps appeared to be active. They arrested one man sleeping on a small pontoon boat when they found methamphetamine in one of his bags.
Volunteers plan to clean up trash Saturday along the Willamette between Springfield and Portland.
