Evergreen Habitat for Humanity’s seventh annual Raising the Roof breakfast benefit on Friday garnered more than $25,000, the group announced.

Proceeds from the event, which drew more than 275 people to the Hilton Vancouver Washington, go to the Clark County home-building Habitat affiliate.

Keynote speaker John Deeder, superintendent of Evergreen Public Schools, described how poor housing arrangements can negatively affect schoolchildren and how the nonprofit group’s work helps to remedy that.

Habitat volunteer Stacia White was presented with the 2010 Ray Johnson Volunteer of the Year Award.

Since 1991, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity has worked to improve living conditions for low-income Clark County residents. The nonprofit organization works in partnership with people in need from all walks of life to develop communities by building safe, affordable housing.

Homes are sold at no profit with a zero percent interest rate mortgage after the partner families complete their sweat equity hours.
