Traffic in Portland moving again after I-5 fatal

At approximately 2 a.m. today, the Portland Police Major Crash Team responded to investigate a traffic fatality that occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5, just north of the Interstate 84 exit. Witnesses state a male subject successfully crossed the northbound lanes of Interstate-5 and was hit by several vehicles when he attempted to cross the southbound lanes of I-5.

All persons involved in this accident have stopped and are cooperating fully with this investigation. Traffic investigators have concluded none of the drivers was impaired, and no citations or arrests have been made.

Southbound traffic was stopped as police processed the scene. Northbound traffic remained open. All lanes are now open.

The identity of the deceased male is unknown and will not be released until family have been notified.
