Talking Points 10/5

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

Talking Points believes that one of the reasons Tiger Woods was so popular before you-know-what is he actually showed emotion on the golf course.

He cares about winning and losing, while the rest of the field rarely gets excited about anything.

Except for the Ryder Cup.

Maybe it’s because it is a team thing. Maybe it’s because the fans have a rooting interest and fire up the players with more than the traditional golf clap.

Whatever it is, the emotions come out for the Ryder Cup.

That’s great, but what about the regular events on the PGA Tour?

We need more emotion from the players. We need to know they care about the difference between finishing first and 20th. With the purses out there, a consistent top-20 finisher can make a boatload of money.

But the objective is to win. Fans want to know that the players understand that.

The players get it during the Ryder Cup. Not so much anywhere else.

If anything, this past golf season with a winless Tiger, has shown that golf is in trouble without Tiger on the tube.

Somebody get Ray Stevens on the line. I think he has another hit song to write.

You know, something like the day the squirrel went berserk, and crushed a tennis pro’s hopes.

American tennis player Robby Ginepri broke his elbow while mountain biking and is out for the rest of the season.

Apparently, Ginepri decided to swerve when a squirrel ran into his path. Well, the squirrel is fine, but Ginepri crashed.

Oh nuts.
