LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler was back practicing Wednesday after leaving last week’s game against the New York Giants because of a concussion.

Cutler was in uniform and participating in passing drills in the early portion of practice that was open to reporters after taking a brutal pounding in Sunday’s 17-3 loss.

He was sacked nine times in the first half and sat out the second, with Todd Collins replacing him. Cutler’s status for this week’s game at Carolina was unclear.

He did not address the media as he usually does before practices on Wednesday. That got pushed back at least until Thursday, but having Cutler on the field had to be encouraging for a team that saw much of the goodwill created by a 3-0 start get squashed by an avalanche of sacks.
