Prep football Week 6: Union vs. Heritage

The Columbian
Published: October 8, 2010, 12:00am

When, where: 8 p.m. Friday at McKenzie Stadium

Records: Union (4-1, 0-0); Heritage (1-4, 0-1); 4A GSHL league game

Game notes: Union is the latest 4A Greater St. Helens League to play a league game. The Titans will play four league games in the final four weeks of the regular season. … Heritage, after being on the wrong end of late-game break, finally got the ball to bounce its way late against Grant of Portland. The Timberwolves recovered a Grant fumble at midfield in the final two minutes of the game, and drove for the winning score. … Earlier this season, Heritage missed a two-point conversion that would have produced a win against Mark Morris, lost in overtime to Skyview, and lost on a last-minute field goal to Mountain View. … Heritage QB Riley O’Dell passed for 388 yards and two TDs against Grant, raising his season total to 1,334 yards. … Heritage is the first pass-first offense the Titans defense will have faced this season. Union excels at shutting down the running game. … Union RB Zak Browning has averaged almost 200 yards a game rushing over the past three weeks.

Columbian’s take: Normally, you wouldn’t think much about a matchup of a 4-1 team vs. a 1-4 team. But this game could be interesting. Mountain View challenged Union last week, and Heritage almost knocked off the Thunder the week before. We’ll still feel Union’s defense will figure out how to limit Heritage’s offense and will be especially stingy in the red zone. PICK: Union
