LONDON (AP) — The Premier League has approved the proposed sale of Liverpool to the American owners of the Boston Red Sox.
The English league said Friday that New England Sports Ventures, which runs the Red Sox, met its requirements for team ownership.
But the $476-million takeover is not yet final and will be settled in court.
Liverpool’s American co-owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr., are opposed to the Red Sox bid, which they say “dramatically undervalues” the club. They are challenging the authority of Liverpool’s three other board members to go through with the sale.
