BEND, Ore. (AP) — A locomotive at the head of an 81-car freight train hit boulders as it moved north toward the Columbia Gorge and the engine’s front wheels derailed.

KTVZ-TV reports there were no injuries or serious damage Sunday afternoon and the line reopened within hours.

The Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway train included 13 loaded cars and 68 empty cars.

Railroad spokesman Gus Melonas says the train was traveling at less than 30 mph en route to Pasco, Wash., when it struck the boulders on the single mainline track in Wasco County, about 23 miles south of Wishram, Wash.

A geotechnical team will inspect and assess slopes on Monday. About 20 gallons of diesel fuel spilled and was cleaned up.
