SEATTLE (AP) — New Census figures show that Seattleites lead the Northwest by getting to work using a method other than driving alone.

Sightline Institute, a Seattle-based think tank, ranked Northwest cities by how commuters got to work in 2009.

Sightline’s Eric de Place found Kennewick, Wash., had the highest percentage of carpoolers. Bellingham, Wash., led with commuters who walked to work, and Seattle had more public transit users.

Bend, Ore., had the greatest share of those working from home. Eugene, Ore., topped the region with commuters who biked.

The data comes from the 2009 American Community Survey released last month.
