OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Secretary of State Sam Reed is predicting 66 percent of voters will turn in their election ballots.

Reed’s office said Monday that voter participation is likely to exceed the last midterm election in 2006, which had 64.6 percent turnout. Ballots will be mailed out to nearly all of the state’s 3.6 million voters later this week. A small number of voters in Pierce County aren’t signed up for absentee ballots and still vote at polling places.

Reed says the average midterm turnout is about 60 percent.

Voters must have their ballots postmarked by the Nov. 2 election. They will weigh in on several races, including a U.S. Senate race, all of state’s U.S. House seats, a state Supreme Court race, dozens of legislative seats, and several ballot measures.
