SOAP LAKE, Wash. (AP) — A number of people who take the mud baths and saunas at Soap Lake reportedly are from eastern Europe or Korea where there’s a tradition of soaking for health.

The Wenatchee World reports vacationers can “mud up” at two public beaches. They also can visit private saunas or the Notaras Lodge where Soap Lake water is piped into the bathtubs of every room.

Regular visitors say Soap lake eases the itch of skin ailments and pain of arthritis.

The science is uncertain, but it may be the high alkaline level and sulfur that helps heal some skin problems.
