On Friday, Vancouver Public Schools hosts the first of four superintendent’s patron tours this school year.

Guests may join Superintendent Steve Webb on a multischool tour to learn about new use of technology, language immersion programs, family-community resource centers, early learning programs and to discuss other innovations, reforms and future plans.

Each tour begins and ends at the Robert C. Bates Center for Educational Leadership, 2921 Falk Road.

Friday’s tour features an inside look at adjacent Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School and the partner Boys & Girls Club program operated in the adjoining Jim Parsley Community Center building.

This tour highlights the district’s Family-Community Resource Centers and partnerships that provide support and assistance for children and families in schools highly affected by poverty. High-level teaching and learning, such as the T-1 Kindergarten program and the Honors Challenge program for grades one-through-five, also will be discussed.

Each tour starts at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m. It includes a luncheon, for $4, prepared by students in the district’s award-winning culinary arts program.

Remaining tours in the 2010-11 school year are scheduled Dec. 3, Feb. 11 and April 15.

All are welcome. To register, contact Sue Knable at 360-313-4720 or susan.knable@vansd.org.
