A Vancouver man believed to have been driving under the influence was arrested early Wednesday morning after he fled a crash in which his female passenger died.
The man was transported to Southwest Washington Medical Center before being booked on suspicion of vehicular homicide, felony hit-and-run driving, DUI and driving while suspended. There was also an outstanding felony warrant for the arrest of Christopher M. Aleo, 31.
Veronica L. Martin, 29, of Vancouver was killed in the wreck, according to a news bulletin issued by the Washington State Patrol.
Aleo was driving eastbound on Highway 500 shortly after 2 a.m. when he slammed head-on into a light pole at Northeast 54th Avenue. He fled the crash on foot, but was later apprehended, the bulletin said.
