LACEY, Wash. (AP) — Democrat Denny Heck and Republican state Rep. Jaime Herrera will face off in a congressional candidate forum in Thurston County.

Heck and Herrera are vying for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, who is retiring. Wednesday’s forum is being hosted by the Thurston Chamber of Commerce. A second forum will be in Longview Wednesday night.

Herrera, a former aide to GOP Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, was appointed to her state House seat in 2007, and was elected in 2008.

Heck served five terms in the Legislature before going on to be then-Gov. Booth Gardner’s chief of staff. He founded the TVW public affairs network in 1993, co-owns a land development company in southwest Washington and is a lead investor in an electronic records company.
