AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. (AP) — A prisoner who killed his cellmate at the Spokane County Jail six years ago is now a suspect in the assault on a cellmate at Airway Heights Corrections Center.
Prison officials say 34-year-old Michael West attacked Chad Bolstad, 25, and Gary L. Welch, 22, in a cell the three shared Sunday night. Guards broke up the fight.
Bolstad was taken to a Spokane hospital with what prison officials described as serious injuries. Welch was treated at the prison infirmary.
West has been transferred to Washington State Penitentiary. He is not scheduled to be released until 2048 after he was convicted of killing cellmate Christopher L. Rentz in 2004.
