SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Spokane Police have arrested a man waving a meat cleaver at Sen. Patty Murray’s supporters before her debate with Dino Rossi.

Officer Jennifer DuRuwe says 50-year-old Johnny J. Sieler was holding a knive and yelling profanities while he drove past a group of Murray supporters just before 5 p.m.

The second time he drove by, he was waving a meat cleaver and making chopping motions. DuRuwe says he slowed down his vehicle so the crowd could see the cleaver and he reached out his window toward them.

When he drove past a third time, Spokane Police officers were in the area, they arrested Sieler for intimidation with a weapon and found multiple knives in the vehicle.

Sieler was booked into the Spokane County Jail.
