FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Nick Folk made kick after kick in the wet and windy conditions, solidifying the confidence of his New York Jets coaches and teammates.

Folk set a career high with five field goals in New York’s 29-20 win over Minnesota on Monday night, an unsung hero when most of the attention was focused on Brett Favre, Randy Moss, Darrelle Revis and Santonio Holmes.

Folk was selected as the AFC’s special teams player of the week for his performance, coming through in the clutch for the Jets. He also ranks first in the NFL with 49 points.

It wasn’t too long ago that coach Rex Ryan wondered how much longer Folk would even be around as the kicker struggled through a rough offseason. The Jets are certainly happy they stuck by him now.
