ROME (AP) — Italy says it won’t re-play the Euro 2012 qualifier against Serbia that had to be abandoned because of fan violence last week.

Antonello Valentini, the head of the Italian soccer federation, says accepting Serbia’s request for a replay would be like giving “a gift” to the Serbia team.

Federation president Giancarlo Abete added that replaying the game “would set an enormous precedent.”

The match in Genoa last week was called off after seven minutes when Serbia supporters threw flares and fireworks onto the field, burned an Albanian flag and broke barriers.

UEFA’s disciplinary panel will hear the case on Oct. 29.
