MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney wants to leave the Premier League club.
Ferguson says “we have had a discussion about the whole situation. The player says he is adamant he wants to leave.”
Ferguson added he is “dumbfounded” by Rooney’s decision, adding “only months before, he was saying he was at the greatest club in the world.”
Contract negotiations between Rooney and the club have broken down, with his contract expiring in 2012.
