A Washougal woman accused of stabbing her boyfriend and then telling police he was trying to commit suicide made a first appearance on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder.

Clark County Superior Court Judge Diane Woolard on Tuesday set bail at $500,000 and appointed attorney Charles Buckley to represent Tanya N. Quinata, 37.

Quinata will be arraigned Friday.

According to court documents, Quinata called 911 Oct. 14 to say her live-in boyfriend, Samuel Kama, had tried to kill himself by stabbing himself in the chest. Clark County sheriff’s deputies tried to question Kama at the residence in the 2100 block of 32nd Street in Washougal, but couldn’t because he was unconscious.

Three days later, he told deputies he did not stab himself and wasn’t suicidal.

“Kama said during a verbal argument with Quinata, he began packing his items to leave,” according to a probable cause affidavit written by sheriff’s Detective Lindsay Schultz. “Kama stated while inside the residence, Quinata allegedly stabbed him with an orange-handled knife in the center of his chest.”

Kama told deputies that Quinata waited 10 minutes before calling 911.

The judge imposed a domestic violence no-contact order restricting Quinata from contacting her boyfriend.
