SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn recently estimated the cost of providing security for President Barack Obama’s visit at $100,000 to $150,000.

McGinn made the estimate last week on the Seattle Channel’s “Ask the Mayor” show. A spokesman told The Seattle Times on Tuesday the city would not confirm the figure because of a policy against disclosing security costs.

Obama visited the city on Aug. 17 when he raised money for Sen. Patty Murray.

This time Obama will lead a rally for Murray Thursday at the University of Washington. Spokesman Bob Roseth says the university will bill the Murray campaign about $45,000.

The Seattle Times also reports political campaigns get billed some of the flight costs for the president and his staff.
