EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The Eugene Water & Electric Board has settled a sexual harassment and discrimination claim by a female electrical line worker apprentice for $250,000.

The Register-Guard reported that 33-year-old Jennifer Smith agreed to give up her EWEB job under the terms of the settlement, which was mediated by the state labor commissioner.

Smith also filed a claim against the Eugene-Springfield Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee for its refusal to advance her to full journeyman status.

The state last week awarded Smith her journeyman card, overturning the local committee’s refusal.

The settlement calls for EWEB and the training committee, in partnership with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, to create a plan that supports diversity and mentoring for minorities and women.
