A Vancouver man shot in the face during an alleged burglary in September will be arraigned Friday on charges of first-degree burglary and second-degree assault.

Nathan Rivers, 22, made his first appearance in Clark County Superior Court last friday, and attorney Dave Kurtz was appointed to represent him.

According to court documents, Rivers on Sept. 9 had visited the home of an acquaintance, Donta Patterson, 29, in the 3500 block of E. McLoughlin Boulevard, and was caught by Patterson allegedly stealing a power drill from his detached garage.

Patterson confronted Rivers with a handgun. Rivers dropped the drill when confronted, but Rivers then allegedly pulled out a handgun and pointed it at Patterson’s head.

“Donta said that he shot Rivers while moving away from the gun in self-defense,” the probable cause affidavit said.

Patterson was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault. A 19-year-old woman, Camille Langdon, who accompanied Rivers to the home, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary.

Court documents reveal that Patterson and Rivers know each other through a prescription drug deal they had been involved in the day before the shooting.
