SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Salem Hospital has completed its purchase of the property of the former Oregon School for the Blind but has no immediate plans for the property.

The Statesman Journal reported the 8.37-acre property was sold for $6 million after the Legislature called for closing the school in 2009.

Gov. Ted Kulongoski signed a bill in March that divides net proceeds from the sale equally between a fund for the blind and the School for the Deaf.

Salem Hospital officials the school buildings likely will be demolished because they have hazardous materials and be prone to earthquake damage.
