STANWOOD, Wash. (AP) — The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office says a young man is dead after he was hit by a car near Stanwood.

A 20-year-old woman was driving just west of Lake Goodwin early Saturday morning when she hit the man. She thought she had struck an animal and told her parents about it when she arrived home.

The sheriff’s office says her parents went to the scene, found the man’s body and called 911 at about 3:30 a.m.

The victim was described as possibly being between 18 and 25.

Investigators said neither alcohol nor speed appeared to be factors. The driver has not been arrested or cited, but the investigation continues.
