Holy Cross holds on to beat Colgate 31-24

HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) — Ryan Taggart threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Bill Edger with 5 seconds remaining in the game to propel Holy Cross past Colgate 31-24 on Saturday.

The Crusaders (4-4, 1-1 Patriot League) led 24-7 at halftime before allowing 17 unanswered points by the Raiders (4-3, 1-1).

Colgate tied the score 24-24 on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Greg Sullivan to Doug Rosnick and a successful two-point conversion with 6:37 left in the fourth quarter.

Holy Cross regained possession at its 24-yard line with 1:03 left on the clock. Taggart completed three passes for 49 yards and ran for 25 more on the game-winning eight-play, 76-yard scoring drive.

Andrew Zitnik returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter for Holy Cross, which also got touchdown receptions in the first half from wideouts Freddie Santana and Luke Chmielinski.
