WTA rolls out new logo to boost its brand

DOHA, Qatar (AP) — The women’s tennis tour has unveiled a new logo at the season-ending WTA Championship. The aim is to shift attention from sponsors to the tour itself.

Until now, the logo has included the WTA name along with main sponsor Sony Ericsson and a small graphic of a tennis player. The new logo displayed in Qatar on Sunday features only the letters WTA in white with a bright purple background.

WTA officials said it wants to remind fans of the “captivating athleticism” of women’s tennis. The logo will be highlighted by the tour in various platforms throughout the 2011 season.
