SEATTLE (AP) — A robust storm is bringing snow to the Washington Cascades and Olympics, as well as high surf on the coast and rain and wind in the Western Washington lowlands.
Snow fell throughout the day Monday at 4,000-foot Stevens Pass. By mid-evening, a light dusting of snow was hitting Snoqualmie Pass at about 3,000 feet.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the Cascades. And Washington’s Transportation Department says it’s OK to start using studded tires a week in advance of the typical Nov. 1 starting time.
The storm has also brought heavy rain. In the south Seattle suburb of Renton, water covered a portion of southbound Interstate 405 for a while Monday, causing a traffic backup that stretched seven miles.
