HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Lewis and Clark County authorities say a 62-year-old Lincoln man has been arrested on suspicion of raping and killing a Spokane, Wash., woman on Christmas Day 1986.

The Independent Record reports Gary L. Trimble was served with a warrant for first degree murder on Saturday. Authorities are withholding the name of the victim until they can notify her family of the arrest.

Sheriff Leo Dutton says he was told Friday that a national law enforcement database found that Trimble’s DNA matched a sample taken from the scene of the Spokane woman’s death.

Deputies also learned Trimble was wanted on a $15,000 probation violation warrant from Teton (TEE’-tahn) County in Montana. He was arrested on that warrant on Friday.

Detectives from Spokane arrived in Helena Saturday to serve the murder warrant.
