PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Republican Party of Oregon has filed an election law complaint after the mother of a Portland-area kindergarten student said she found a flier from a teachers’ union supporting the Democratic candidate for governor in her child’s folder.

The woman turned the flier over to the Oregon GOP. The party, which refused to identify the woman, filed a complaint with the secretary of state’s office.

The flier from the Portland Association of Teachers urges members to elect Democrat John Kitzhaber.

PAT president Rebecca Levison says the flier was only intended for members.

Portland Public Schools spokesman Matt Shelby says the district is investigating and that including an election flier in a student’s folder would be a “clear violation” of election law.
