LACEY, Wash. (AP) — The Thurston County Sheriff’s office has arrested a 47-year-old Lacey man on suspicion of second-degree rape of a child and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes after he tried to meet a 13-year-old he was chatting with online for sex at a motel.

The Olympian reports Mark J. Daniel is being held without bail in the Thurston County Jail.

Lt. Chris Mealy says detectives set up a sting operation on Thursday involving an officer who posed as the girl, after her mother notified detectives that there as an inappropriate relationship. Daniel had befriended the girl on Facebook. When the girl gave up her Facebook password to authorities, they arranged to meet him at a motel on Friday.

Mealy says Daniel has no previous criminal record and is unemployed.
