Northwestern St. tops Sam Houston St. 23-20 in 2OT

NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Paul Harris passed for two touchdowns and scored on a 1-yard run in the second overtime to give Northwestern State a 23-20 win over Sam Houston State on Saturday night.

The Demons (4-4, 3-1 Southland Conference) won their third straight game while the Bearkats dropped thier second in a row following a 31-28 loss to Stephen F. Austin.

Northwestern State pulled ahead 10-3 on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Harris to Bradley Brown with 11:06 to go in the third quarter, capping a 92-yard drive.

After Sam Houston State (4-4, 2-2) tied the score on Brian Bell’s 3-yard pass to Seth Patterson, neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

Both quarterbacks threw TD passes in the first overtime. In the second, the Bearkats stalled on the 14 and settled for Miguel Antonio’s 31-yard field goal.

Harris’ 21-yard pass to Justin Aldredge set up the final score.
