Seminar to focus on avoiding fraud, scams

JANTZEN BEACH — The public is invited to a free seminar about avoiding scams and fraud.

It runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Park Room of the Jantzen Beach shopping center, along Interstate 5 just south of Vancouver in Portland.

The seminar, called Scam Jam 2010, is offered by the Better Business Bureau, FBI, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and other consumer-protection agencies, according to a BBB bulletin.

Topics will include identity theft, financial and mail fraud, online schemes, mortgage fraud, employment scams and charity scams.
