Briecat takes feature on Oak Tree closing day

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Briecat held off Westwood Pride by a neck Sunday in the $150,000 Las Palmas Handicap for fillies and mares on the final day of the Oak Tree meeting at Hollywood Park.

Briecat, ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, ran a mile on the turf in 1:34.77 and paid $29, $10.60 and $5.60. Westwood Pride, ridden by Rafael Bejarano, returned $7.20 and $3.80, and Turning Top paid $2.80 to show.

Bejarano edged Joel Rosario 35-24 to win the Oak Tree riding title.

Trainer Bob Baffert won the Oak Tree riding title for the second straight year and fifth time since 1997. He had 11 victories, one more than Doug O’Neill and John Sadler.
