PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The entire Oregon coast will get the same warning signal if a tsunami ever threatens it.

The Oregon Military Department said Wednesday that a uniform tsunami warning signal has been adopted for the entire state.

Local communities on the coast have up to five years to transition to the new standard signal siren.

The state agency that coordinates disaster response, Oregon Emergency Management, says the warning siren will sound a distinct up-and-down wail that will last for three minutes.

The tsunami warning sirens will be tested the first Wednesday of every month, at about the same time as National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather radio tests.
