PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Zoo is opening a new exhibit this week for orangutans and white-cheeked gibbons, called the Red Ape Reserve exhibit.

Officials say the new exhibit will give the zoo’s orangutans, Inji and Kutai, the opportunity to experience a more natural environment, including foliage and weather.

The 50-year-old Inji and her grandson, Kutai, already appear to be adapting well to the new exhibit before the formal opening set for Friday.

Activities will include big floor puzzles of Asian animals, crafts, games, animal talks and a celebration of Inji’s 50th birthday. Presentations are planned about how palm oil plantations endanger orangutans and other animals in their habitat.
