Recovering addicts to link across I-5 bridge

Thousands of recovering addicts are expected to participate in a Hands Across the Bridge event on the Interstate 5 Bridge at 10 a.m. Monday.

The eighth annual event is part of National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery month, according to a news release issued Thursday by the Clark County Department of Community Services.

“On Labor Day we will all stand together to show that the bridge to recovery is the bridge to our transformed lives at home, at work and in our neighborhoods,” co-organizer Patty Katz said in the news release.

Following the bridge event, there will be an Oxfest Celebration, noon to 7 p.m. in Esther Short Park.

There will be live music, recovery resources and food vendors in the park, the corner of Eighth and Columbia streets in downtown Vancouver.
