Oil paintings by Romona Youngquist are on display throughout September at downtown Vancouver’s Art on the Boulevard. Youngquist will showcase landscapes and natural scenes. She aims to capture simplicity and atmosphere in her work.

Youngquist’s exhibit remains on display through Sept. 26.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

The art exhibit is one of several weekend entertainment options in Clark County and Portland. Others include a ride on the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad, the circus and Portland’s Art in the Pearl festival.

1. All aboard!

The Chelatchie Prairie Railroad takes passengers through a 330-foot tunnel and forests of north Clark County. The trip includes a brief stop at Big Creek Falls.

When: Noon and 2:30 p.m. today, Sunday and Monday.

Admission: $15; $14 for seniors 60 and older; $10 for children 5-11; $8 for children 2-4; free for children 1 and younger.

2. Circus comes to town

“Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Presents Barnum’s FUNundrum!” showcases performers and animals in Portland this weekend.

The circus show features 130 performers, cowboys, pirates and mermaids in a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of P.T. Barnum.

When: 2 and 6 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Sunday.

3. Art showcase takes over Portland

The Art in the Pearl Fine Arts & Crafts Festival brings together 130 artists from across the United States and Canada. The artists will sell and display paintings, wood works, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and jewelry.

The event also includes live music, food vendors, hands-on activities and art demonstrations.

Three Clark County artists will have work on display at the festival. Jill Mayberg will show her paintings, Lyn Sedlak-Ford will exhibit her abstract expressionist mixed media work, and Gene Flores will display hand-colored etchings.

When: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday.

Where: North Park Blocks, which are along Northwest Eighth Avenue, between West Burnside and Northwest Glisan streets, in Portland.

4. George Clooney is ‘The American’

George Clooney stars as an assassin in “The American,” in theaters this weekend.

A job doesn’t end well, so Clooney’s character retreats to the Italian countryside for rest and relaxation. There, he befriends a priest (Paolo Bonacelli) and meets a beautiful woman (Violante Placido). Their budding relationship leads him to come out of hiding, but he might be tempting fate by doing so.

“The American” is rated R.
