A man who was selling jewelry on the street outside a mall-area bank on Friday grabbed $300 from the hands of a woman and fled, police say.
About 5:15 p.m. Friday, the man was standing outside the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 8211 N.E. Van Mall Drive, offering to sell rings and bracelets he kept a small Zales Jewelers box. The items had Zales price tags on them, said Officer Ilia Botvinnik with the Vancouver Police Department.
Botvinnik said a woman emerged from the bank carrying some cash and spoke with the man, who grabbed her cash and ran off.
Zales employees had reported no theft at the mall store, Botvinnik said.
The alleged thief was described as black, about 25 or 30 with a medium build. He was cleanly and neatly dressed, wearing a brown baseball cap with the bill forward, a dark longsleeved shirt and blue jeans.
Anyone who sees a similar person selling jewelry on the street is asked to call 911.
