PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Washington Nationals have recalled right-hander Collin Balester from Triple-A Syracuse for the third time this season.

Balester will work out of the bullpen, but manager Jim Riggleman said Sunday he could make a start before the end of the season. Balester is 0-1 with a 4.70 ERA in six games for Washington. He had a 2-0 record and a 3.45 ERA during 29 games with Syracuse.

The Nationals are expected to recall Yuneski Maya, a 29-year-old right-hander from Cuba who signed in July, to start Tuesday against the Mets. Maya has a 1-1 record and 0.87 ERA in two games with Syracuse. Maya defected from Cuba a year ago.
