WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Nationals have recalled right-handed pitcher Yunesky Maya (yoo-NEHS’-skee MEYE’-uh) from Triple-A Syracuse.

Maya, a Cuban defector who signed with the Nationals last month, was set to make his major league debut Tuesday night against the New York Mets. He went 1-1 with an 0.87 ERA in two starts with Syracuse and previously pitched for Cuba in the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classic.

The Nationals also selected right-handed pitcher Joe Bisenius (beh-SIHN’-ee-uhs) from Syracuse and recalled left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler from rehab and reinstated him from the 15-day disabled list.

Washington designated catcher Carlos Maldonado for assignment.
