PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A former U.S. Postal Service worker has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing government money. U.S. District Judge Ancer Haggerty also ordered 51-year-old Michele Smith on Thursday to repay the government more than $200,000.

Prosecutors say she used the money to buy cars, pay for Disneyland hotel rooms and buy items from LL Bean, Sleep Country and a book club.

They add that Smith stole money orders, processed fraudulent refunds and then issued money orders to herself and her family.

The Oregonian says she worked at the East Portland Station Post Office.
