Prep football Week 2: Coeur d’Alene vs. Skyview

The Columbian
Published: September 10, 2010, 12:00am

When, where: 7 p.m. Saturday at Kiggins Bowl

Records: Coeur d’Alene 2-0, Skyview 0-1; non-league game.

Game notes: Coeur d’Alene comes into this game with two wins under its belt. The Vikings opened with a 42-19 win over Moscow (Idaho) before beating Moses Lakes last Friday 31-0. … Junior QB Chad Chalich was 30 of 47 for 487 yards and five TDs this season. … WR Jake Matheson caught nine passes for 251 yards in two games. … The Vikings’ win over Moses Lake could have been much worse. There was lightning in the Coeur d’Alene area last Friday and the game was twice delayed because of it. The first delay lasted more than an hour. After the second delay, Moses Lake conceded the game with 5:58 left in the third quarter. … The Vikings are ranked fourth in Idaho 5A. … Look for a high-scoring affair. … Skyview lost 42-28 to Sherwood (Ore.) last week, but still is ranked No. 7 at 4A by the Seattle Times. … QB Kody Watts threw for 208 yards. WR Ellis Henderson had 5 catches for 140 yards and two TDs. RB Parker Henry rushed 17 times for 109 yards. …

Columbian’s take: Last year, Moses Lake went 5-5 last year, losing to University of Spokane in the East regional playoff. So Coeur d’Alene’s rout last week was not a pushover. Still, Skyview played well in its opener. And like Union, we have a hard time picking Skyview to go 0-2. Pick: Skyview
