A man and woman were injured in Woodland late Wednesday after a handgun discharged, with a bullet passing through the man’s hand and striking the woman’s hip.

David Barlow was unloading the gun near the 1900 block of Hawthorne Court at about 8:20 p.m. when a cartridge in the .40-caliber Glock fired, according to a news bulletin issued by the Woodland Police Department. He suffered a serious wound to his left palm.

The bullet ricocheted off the ground and grazed Cassie Vester, who had been shooting the gun recreationally with Natalie Held earlier in the day, police said.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, though police say it appears to have been accidental.
