QUINCY, Wash. (AP) — A Grant County spokesman says a new wildfire burning in central Washington grass and sagebrush is threatening about 10 homes. State officials are sending firefighting help.

County Emergency Management spokesman Kyle Foreman said Friday night that the fire has burned across about 6,000 acres or nearly 912 square miles. Another five homes considered threatened earlier are being protected by fire crews.

No injuries have been reported.

Foreman says about 90 firefighters are attacking the blaze with the help of four state helicopters and equipment from three counties. Grant County has activated its emergency operations center.

The cause of the fire in the rocky, steep Baird Springs area northwest of Quincy was not immediately known.
