The largest drunken-driving enforcement campaign in state history netted 132 intoxicated drivers in Clark County during the three-week push that ended on Labor Day, according to a news bulletin issued by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
Statewide, 2,672 drivers were stopped and arrested by 172 law enforcement agencies.
The Vancouver and Battle Ground police departments participated in the campaign along with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol. That meant extra patrols for the Clark County Target Zero Traffic Safety Task Force, which seeks out inebriated drivers. The extra patrols were funded by a grant from the traffic safety commission.
Impaired drivers caused 264 deaths in 2009, which is nine deaths fewer than the average for the previous five years.
