RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Former Carolina Hurricanes captain Rod Brind’Amour is now the club’s director of forwards development.

The team said Sunday that the popular center who retired this summer would be responsible for working with all forwards in the organization.

General manager Jim Rutherford says the noted workout warrior “is already displaying the same work ethic and dedication in his new role as he did with us as a player.”

In June, Brind’Amour ended a two-decade playing career in which he won the Selke Trophy in 2006 and ’07 and was the captain of the Hurricanes’ only Stanley Cup championship team in 2006.

He joins Glen Wesley, Ron Francis and Tom Barrasso as former Carolina players who have taken management positions with the club.
