Pass-happy Spurrier glad to go to Lattimore

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Run it up has a new meaning for South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier this season.

Spurrier gladly kept handing off to freshman tailback Marcus Lattimore, who rushed for 182 yards and two touchdowns in the Gamecocks’ 17-6 victory over Georgia on Saturday.

And South Carolina’s pass-happy ball coach says he’ll continue calling Lattimore’s number when the situation dictates. Lattimore put the Gamecocks ahead with two first-half TDs, then sealed things in the fourth quarter on their clinching field goal drive.

Spurrier was amazed at how often Lattimore broke through Bulldogs tacklers in position for the stop.

That’s high praise from a coach who’s sent stars such as Errict Rhett and Fred Taylor to the NFL during his championship run at Florida.
