Russia dominates freestyle at wrestling worlds

MOSCOW (AP) — Bilyal Makhov and Denis Tsargush completed Russia’s domination in men’s freestyle wrestling by winning gold medals at the world championships on Sunday.

Defending champion Makhov won his fifth world title in the 120-kilomgram class by beating Artur Taymazov of Uzbekistan 1-0, 1-0.

Earlier, Tsargush defended his title by beating Sadegh Saeed Goudarzi of Iran 1-0, 3-0 in the 74-kilogram category for his second world top podium.

Asia champion Kumar Sushil of India denied Russia from sweeping top podiums Sunday by beating Alan Gogaev 2-1, 1-0 in the final of the 66-kilogram class.

Russia hasn’t missed a podium in any of seven men’s freestyle events, winning four gold medals, two silver and a bronze.
