MIAMI (AP) — Forecasters say Tropical Storm Julia is nearing the southern Cape Verde Islands.
The National Hurricane Center said Julia was about 60 miles (100 km) south-southeast of the southernmost islands early Monday. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph).
Officials have issued a tropical storm warning for parts of the Cape Verde Islands, including Maio, Sao Tiago, Fogo and Brava.
Julia moving around 12 mph (19 kph) to the west-northwest. It’s expected to strengthen and could become a hurricane this week.
